The first one bears an unfortunate resemblance to some agunah cases in Israel (and probably elsewhere).
Except that, as I understand it, in most agunah cases the husband doesn't spend eleven years in jail for contempt.
There are cases in Israel where it's happened, though the charge has been failure to deliver a get (leveled by the rabbinic courts) rather than contempt. In one recent case a man actually died in jail rather than divorce his wife.
